The idea of having competing barbershop choruses was born right here in the city of Oshkosh when, on July 21, 1946, the first chorus contest ever held in the society was held at the American Legion Clubhouse on the shores of Lake Winnebago. It was estimated that about 1,800 people attended, 700 of which were barbershoppers and their families.

In December of 1962 the Oshkosh Chapter of S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. registered articles of incorporation with the Winnebago County register of deeds. The Oshkosh Chapter also has hosted the Land O’ Lakes District Barbershop Fall Convention in 1969, 1974, 1992 and 1997.
